Welcome to the latest version of Base CMS! If you're reading this, you're already interacting with the latest version of the CMS.

Taxonomy is the back bone of a good content system. Without categories and tags, users will have a difficult time finding content and navigating a website.

This release includes the following highlights:

    Categories and Tags

Content can now be connected with categories and tags. This is accomplished by introducing a few new databases: tags, categories and content_tags. Every piece of content can be associated with a single category, and multiple tags.

Content and tags are also presented on the front-end of the site so readers can see the associated tags and categories, and filter feed pages to see all the content associated with a category or tag.

    Additional Metadata

With the introduction of tags and categories, v0.2.0 also includes publish time, update time and author metadata. This information improves the reading experience by demonstrating who created the content and when the content was first published and (optionally) updated.

Outside of these improvements, there have been some additional changes to metadata and how it gets surfaced in the editor and other places in the CMS.

    What's next

The next big are of improvement is the editor itself. Right now there's a few bugs that exist in the editor that I'd like to fix. Additionally, I'm going to be adding more formatting options, pretty links and embeds to the editor. As well as some additional functionality, such as autosave and more.

The next big update to the platform is tentatively scheduled for mid-April 2025.

After that, the focus will be improving reader usability (including a new home page, better navigation and more), analytics and creating a more unique visual identity for the site.
